3D Printer - Burning through plastic

I got a 3D printer! It's a Printerbot LC. Not too much to report yet, but perhaps I'll post some progress here.

Here is a shot of 3 prints of the same model, made over the span of two weeks.

The one on the left was one of my first prints, and it got knocked over by the printhead before completion.
The one in the middle was after I starting printing on painter's tape instead of glass, as it's "grippier"
The one on the right is my most recent print, after doing some calibration on the printer, and setting the layer height to its smallest setting to get more detail.
